Why hire a Wise teacher?

We know you might be asking yourself that question. The answer: research suggests that the COVID-19 crisis is having a disproportionate impact on elementary school students, and the impact is both short and long-term. Wise provides parents with a simple solution.

Let’s get your elementary student back on track.

Overcome the COVID-19 slide.

In a normal year, students experience “summer slide,” a moderate loss of learning resulting from being out of the classroom for a few months. But, this is not a normal year. With elementary schools closed in March for the year, researchers are raising alarms. Preliminary estimates suggest students will return to school with only 70% of learning gains in reading relative to a typical year. In mathematics, the situation is worse. Students are likely to return with less than 50% of learning gains. On average, students will return to school anywhere from 7-12 months behind what we would typically see.

It’s not just about the academics.

Elementary school students thrive with structure and learn best with a strong social and emotional connection with a teacher. The COVID-19 crisis has upended routine and connection - and the implications are profound. Researchers have emphasized how supportive adult relationships, strengthened life skills and stress reduction are critical for students; unfortunately, much of this has been taken from our children as a result of COVID-19. Wise teachers are reconnecting with students, renewing in them a love of learning.

FAQs

How do you match up my child with a Wise teacher?

Building the social and emotional connection between a student and Wise teacher is critical for success. Following enrollment, families complete a preference questionnaire so we can match the student to the best fit Wise teacher on our team.

How frequently will my child meet with our teacher?

We have found that consistency with our instruction is a key to success. Your Wise teacher will develop a personalized learning plan based on your child’s assessment, needs and goals. We will also make sure it fits with your and your child’s schedule.

How much involvement is expected from the parents?

As much as you would like. Wise teachers work directly with students and we neither expect nor require that parents attend. Take back that time for yourself! Of course, if parents would like to join sessions, they are more than welcome to.
